Empathy is Supreme.

It is important to understand where your dog's behaviors are coming from before we work on changing them. We must earn our dogs trust and respect if we expect them to trust and respect us and our rules. When done right teaching obedience should, above all else, foster trust between the handler and the dog.

This trust is what enables a dog to give up its agency to people. In return, the dog should be able to rely upon their human to provide for them, and to keep them safe, no matter what the danger. When that trust is lacking the leash often causes anxiety as it interferes with the dog's fight/flight response, leading to anxiety, fear and aggression on leash.”
